Orinda was ranked the second most friendly town in America by Forbes in 2012 and is part of the Lamorinda area. Located just through the Caldecott Tunnel from Berkeley, Orinda is an affluent area, home to many professionals who commute to Oakland or San Francisco.

Orinda hosts the annual Orinda Film Festival at the historic Orinda Theatre. In June through October at the Bruns Memorial Amphitheater, the internationally known California Shakespeare Theatre – Cal Shakes is performed. 
 
Orinda is home to Tilden Regional Park, a 2,000-acre park that contains hiking trails, a steam train, a golf course, the Little Farm and merry-go-round, and Lake Anza. It is a destination for naturalists and hikers.
