Why are Prices Increasing?

The Silicon Valley Competitiveness & Innovation Project – 2018 Update is now available.

What does it say? Well since 2010 overall employment in the region is up 29%. Population growth in the region is up 8%. Meanwhile, housing stock only increased 4%. So there are a lot of people working in Silicon Valley that don’t live in Silicon Valley (and probably would like to because oh by the way, the average commuter now spends 72 minutes commuting round trip per day – that’s also up almost 19% since 2010). As employment growth continues to expand, and housing stock stays basically the same, home prices continue to increase because there are so many people wanting to live in the area (and surrounding regions).
